Mel Asbury, SPHR, is President of Asbury Consulting LLC, an HR consulting and training firm based in Greensboro, NC. With 30+ years of human resources experience, Asbury has held senior HR leadership positions in a broad array of industries, from biotech to telecommunications, including Glaxo SmithKline, Exxon Mobil, IBM, Novant Health and others. Several of the firms in which he led the HR function achieved national and state recognition from "Working Mothers Magazine" and "Best Places to Work" Institute. Having worked with all levels of employees and management, Asbury has designed and delivered competency based executive education and professional development programs throughout the U.S. and internationally. He has served as an associate consultant with Duke University's DELTA Program, Vyner-Brooks Associates, and Learning Technologies Inc. Asbury has also taught at Purdue University and Southern University as an adjunct instructor.

Asbury obtained his business coaching certification through UNC/Duke University. He is certified on Benchmarks 360 through the Center for Creative Leadership, Myers-Briggs, and various other instruments. He has an undergraduate degree in business from NC Central University and a Masters in Industrial Relations from Purdue University. He has done research in race relations and its impact on unionization attempts, and also the impact of diversity on business coaching.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). He is also a member of the World at Work Compensation Association, American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration, the American College of Healthcare Executives, the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources, and the Stock Plan Administrators Association. He has served on the board of United Way, Goodwill Industries, and Communities in Schools. Asbury is also a past recipient of the "Human Resources Professional of the Year" in North Carolina by SHRM.
